POSTERS

Why present a poster

A Poster is a visual medium that you use to communicate a key idea related to your research. It presents that idea in a verbal and graphic way.

Unlike an oral presentation, a poster does (most) of your talking.

There are several advantages to presenting a poster:

  • Posters can be viewed at any time. Your Poster will be available throughout the conference both onsite at the venue and online in the dedicated Resource Gallery.
  • Viewers can “absorb” the poster in their own time/way.
  • You will have the ability to not only share with viewers your poster but engage with delegates via the Discussion forum in the online portal. Delegates can view your poster and then type any questions they may have for you to reply to via text. You can also discuss your research at length with viewers on a one-to-one basis.

Prepare your Poster

Remember to save a PDF version of your poster and check it’s appearance before submitting it.  The PDF will be the digital accompaniment (via the conference app and online portal) to your physical poster.

Poster Measurements
Your printed poster MUST align to the A0 PORTRAIT measurements.  Do not print a larger poster or in any other orientation than portrait.

841mm wide x 1189mm high
33.1 inches wide x 46.8 inches high

Think of your poster as a conversation starter:  A scientific poster is not meant to be a comprehensive report of your research. The primary goal is to attract the attention of symposium attendees so that you can begin a conversation.  The content of your poster should be easy to digest. Your audience may not have much time to spend on each poster. Make it as easy as possible for them to quickly scan your poster and understand the story you’re trying to tell.

Keep it Simple: Make your poster clear and clean, avoid unnecessary clutter and “special effects” that do not add value. Keep the background simple and subtle; use a light coloured background for the main slide body. Do not use WordArt, reflections, drop shadows, 3D, semi-transparent fills or textured backgrounds; they are unpredictable and are not necessary.  For consistency amongst the Posters, please only use Verdana font for your text.

DUE MONDAY 23RD JANUARY

The PDF version of your poster must be provided to Conference Design:

  • In PDF format.
  • As a single file. Multiple files will not be accepted.
  • Submit via the Poster Upload box above.
  • Files to be named: presenter name and poster title (Firstname_Lastname_Poster Title).

If making changes, always ensure to upload the latest version. Each upload is stamped with date/time so we will only use the latest version uploaded to the system.

REMINDER: If you are attending onsite, please ensure you bring your poster with you to the symposium.
