Mona Museum
The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) is a must see destination in Hobart. It is the largest privately owned museum in Australia and houses antiquities, modern and contemporary art from the collection of the owner, David Walsh. Walsh has described the museum as a “subversive adult Disneyland“. Located on the banks of the Derwent a short ferry trip from Hobart, Mona has three levels of underground galleries, which visitors explore with custom-built, handheld technology, called the O, that tells them about the artworks on display. Mona is also home to two wineries and a brewery, several bars and restaurants, luxury accommodation pavilions, a library, a cemetery and a tennis court. Suggested Itinerary: If you’re in Tassie, it’s a must to go out and visit the iconic Mona Museum.
